Description
A stylish Morris Ware vase designed by George Cartlidge, hand-painted with stylised, butterfly-style motifs in shades of cream, light blue, purple and emerald green. With printed factory mark and facsimile signature.
Sampson Hancock’s & Sons was founded in 1857 in Tunstall, Staffordshire. Designs were tube-lined and often resemble the work of William Moorcroft. From the end of World War I until the company’s closure in 1937, the majority of designs were the work of George Cartlidge, F.X. Abraham and Edith Gater.
