This charming Arts & Crafts stick stand is fashioned from solid, quarter-sawn oak and has two copper panels, the upper shaped panel is embossed with stylised flowers and tendrils whilst the slatted front and sides support a second panel with raised bosses. The stand also features a paneled back, upper dividers, shaped finials resting on front columnar supports, small tapering legs and an original metal drip tray. The stand was produced by Shapland & Petter of Barnstable, a leading maker of furniture in the Arts and Crafts style that was celebrated for its fine designs and high-quality craftsmanship. It is unmarked but appears in their catalogues as design number 1415 and features on P29 of Judith Miller’s Arts and Crafts Collector’s Guide (2005).
Very good original condition – the copper is beautifully patinated from never having been polished while the stand has a couple of scuffs to the top rail and legs and a small chip to the left finial.
