A wonderfully imposing and characterful Victorian Throne or Abbot’s chair of large proportions, constructed from solid oak in the gothic style. The chair features a tall, paneled back with shaped end finials and carved leaf motifs on a shaped pediment. The lower back has a pierced, gothic-inspired design supported by three central columns whilst the flat, square seat supports 2 sturdy armrests. The lower front and sides of the chair have traditional gothic arches with paneling above. The chair stands just over 2metres tall, 70cm wide and 65cm deep. This is a real statement piece and would look good in any traditional setting (assuming you have the space and a 2metre height clearance) or alternatively, could be used to hire out for parties and events (e.g. Santa’s chair, Princess chair for parties, ceremonial events etc.
Good vintage condition – structurally sound with no loose joints. The chair shows significant signs of wear and tear (marks, scratches, shrinkage cracks etc.) as well as uneven colouration, consistent with the chair’s 150+ year history and bestowing on it charm and character in abundance. Two pieces of moulding are missing, a small piece just below the seat edge on the chair front and a larger piece on the left-hand back section, adjacent to the three columns. These could be easily replaced if desired.
