A superb Arts and Crafts mahogany armchair with a design attributed to E W Godwin
The furniture maker James Peddle of High Wycombe registered the design on 24th March 1881. An ebonised version of the chair is illustrated in ‘The Secular Furniture of E W Godwin’ by Susan Weber Soros (New York 1999, p131).
In excellent condition for its age. On close inspection, there are signs of a long-standing repair to the upper left rail (see last photo) but this is structurally sound and does not detract from what is still a lovely period chair.
