A lovely solid oak student’s bureau/bookcase consisting of an upper pierced gallery, a fall flap with shaped apron, stylised, brass art nouveau hinges and pull handle, revealing a fitted interior above 2 interior shelves. Below the fitted interior is a couple of bookshelves above a further shaped apron and splayed feet. The bureau/bookcase has been attributed to Shapland and Petter for Liberty by Wessex Auction Rooms and Anthony Geering of Puritan Values, an acknowledged expert in the Arts and crafts field. Practical, stylish and space-saving, this piece is ideally suited to modern living with a perfect working platform for your laptop as well as space for storing your books.
Very good – structurally sound with some age-related wear and tear (old marks, scratches, ink stain etc.) as would be expected from a piece of some 100+ years. An inkwell has been hand carved at the end of the pen holder within the fitted bureau (see picture).
