A large and impressive figurative fruit or sweet dishrepresenting one of the most iconic Art Nouveau pieces to come out of the WMF factory in the early 20thCentury. Featuring a maiden with long hair and flowing robes, rising up from 4 lily pads in a continuous, twisting motion, the latter embossed with stylised whiplash decoration. Impressed WMF marks (Ostrich Lozenge, B, I/O, OX) to the base and measuring 38cm wide by 26cm high to the top of the figure. The dish is the larger, quatrefoil version (a twin dish was also made) and has the model number 169, displayed on page 342 of the definitive WMF reference guide: ‘Art Nouveau Domestic Metalwork: From Wurttembergische Metallwaren Fabrik, 1906’.
Superb overall condition.
