A pretty little French Art Nouveau mantel clock (c1905) with iconic features of the period in a patinated bronze finish with gilt highlights. The cast metal clock features a central panel with the head and bust of a young maiden with flowers in her hair surrounded by the organic, flowing, sinuous curves evocative of the Art Nouveau period. The upper splayed section is embellished with gilded flowers and surrounds a lovely little ivory (coloured) & gilt metal dial with heart shaped motifs and an engine-turned gilt surrounding. Both sides of the case have combined floral and foliate designs in high relief and the right side is signed ‘DUBOIS’. The clock measures 25cm high by 13cm wide by 7cm deep. It has recently been serviced by a professional clock repairer and is in fine working order. Please note that the clock can be easily adjusted if running slow or fast by moving a small lever on the rear of the case.
Lovely vintage condition with no damages to the case. The bronze patination is in great condition with some wear to the raised, gilded areas on the flowerheads, giving the piece a lovely period feel. There is a small mark on the central gilded section of the dial which is difficult to spot under normal conditions, as shown in the close-up picture of the dial.
